“ A Muscle – centric lifestyle incorporating nutritional and movement changes can Rewrite your life Story” - Gabrielle Lyon

I have shared this quote many times since I came across it. In fact, I have this written on my office white board, displayed for all who enter to see. I truly believe this.

Have you ever been scrolling through your socials and come across the reels showing someone’s transformation? Especially one who catches your attention because of their age. 60! 70! 80 year olds, doing exactly like this quote says…..Rewriting their very own life stories!

I love these videos and their stories. I can’t get enough!

….and btw if you don’t see these you are not following the right amount of great content, which is a part of health and wellness also, which I will touch on at another time ;)

Skeletal muscle plays a crucial role in our overall health. It provides strength, stability, mobility, and also impacts our metabolism, immune function, and just overall our quality of life.

So, what does this really all mean and how does one do it?

Well, I believe it first starts with a mindset shift of 2 things:

1. start thinking of ourself and longevity.

2. that we need to prioritize our skeletal muscle.

Longevity and skeletal muscle, how do we go about that?

Strength training, and ensuring not only proper nutrition, but looking at our macros and importantly our protein intake. If you are not tracking your protein, I can guarantee that you are not eating near enough. I see this time and time again with my clients. They think they are on track, but when we break it all down it becomes a huge eye opener for them. Protein is the building block of muscle tissue, and consuming an adequate amount of protein is essential for muscle growth and repair.

And not having the right sources can lead to the lack of as well. We need good quality sources to help support muscle development. Besides the protein, carbohydrates are also important. They provide the necessary energy for muscle contractions and can be stored in the muscles. Carbs have gotten a bad rap. But it’s the choices of them that make a difference. We need good sources carbohydrates, we need complex carbs, these in your meals can provide a steady source of energy for your muscles.

I think a future blog on this will be coming your way too ;)

And from these two important macros the vitamins and minerals that we get are needed to play a significant role in muscle health. Nutrients are essential for muscle contraction, relaxation, and overall muscle function. Including a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains in your diet can help ensure you are getting a great amount of nutrients.

Maintaining and strengthening skeletal muscle with proper nutrition is crucial.

Proper nutrition to help us build this skeletal muscle isn’t easy to come by these days. I mean it is, it’s out there. But with the world of conveniences and packages that make us believe we are getting good sources (ex.”all natural”), it can be so hard, and very confusing to someone who thinks they are doing so well. But are not seeing the results that they want. I see this time and time again, and hear the question “well what do I eat?”

With all the information that is out there, it isn’t easy to just start. I know. But it is attainable and sustainable for the long term!

Movement, strength, and the profound impact on metabolism and immune health is how we get longevity.

By prioritizing nutrition and engaging in regular physical activity, you can enhance your overall well being and enjoy the benefits of a healthy and strong skeletal muscle system, and rewrite your life story.
